Butterflies
You might think, after more than 30 years working in higher education, and many others as a student, the feelings of anxiousness and wonder in starting a new school year would be long past. Yet every year at this time, I get the same bubbling-up energy about starting fresh, a new day, the promise and potential of this year’s journey in life—and in the lives of the students and community we serve.
Spending the summer meeting with incoming students and families has filled me once again with renewed excitement, hope, and joy for UGA. It has been a tumultuous summer for many across the nation and around the world. As we come together as a learning community this fall, we have much to contemplate and share, new understandings to make, new commonalities to find. I look forward to the growth, personal challenges, and awakenings in store for us all this year. May we join in the spirit of discovery, dialogue, and learning together for the betterment of our campus and, most important of all, our world.
