Thinking and Doing

“Thinkers think and doers do. But until the thinkers do and the doers think, progress will be just another word in the already overburdened vocabulary of talkers who talk.”
~ Adapted from Francois de La Rochefoucauld

As the winter holidays near, I am reminded again how thankful I am to serve at a University with such a storied history and brave ambition for the future. Over my years at UGA, it is easy to see the wonderful growth – for students, the campus, and members of our community. I am proud and grateful.

Yet, as I look forward, and think about what today’s students will need in tomorrow’s ever-changing world, I am reminded of how we must continue to marry thought and action. What we are busily doing today may benefit from new thinking. Our grand thoughts and dreams, to become real, must meet practice.

I am energized by the promise of our work ahead for and with students. I am appreciative of all that each of you do. And I know together, more than just talk, we will think and do whatever it takes for our students to succeed. Best wishes for a fantastic end of fall term and winter break!
