The Extra Step
Several years ago, a close friend of mine moved to the Philippines. Since then, we have always talked about how great it would be for me to visit. With the usual hectic pace of work and life and thousands of miles between, there was always a reason it never happened. This year would be different.
As you read this, I am enjoying the fabulous history, art, and culture on the Philippine isles, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Cambodia and Bangkok, Thailand. I finally made this trip happen, mostly because I believe in the power of the opportunities presented to us. When we have a chance to make a special opportunity happen, the time, effort, and resources required are infinitely worthwhile.
In our work with students at UGA, there are so many moments where those extra steps can make all the difference. As we begin this new year, I encourage us all to seek out those special opportunities—to help a student, improve a process, build a partnership, whatever the case may be—and make those opportunities come alive. The extra efforts we make for students elevate us all.
Best wishes for a wonderful 2016 and see you (back in Georgia) soon!
