To the Future
This past year I have been serving on a national task force for NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, discussing the future of student affairs.
We have met with stakeholders across the country—students and college presidents, community and business leaders, faculty and student affairs staff. Across all of these perspectives, I have been heartened to hear such a strong shared value for our work in student affairs, not only toward the success and well-being of our students, but for society as a whole. It has been highly affirming.
At the same time, this effort has also brought into high relief our continued need to learn and adapt, as individuals, organizations, and as a field, to meet the opportunities of tomorrow. We talk often about all the ways that students and the world are changing, and I am reminded more than ever how adeptly we must continue to move as well, while keeping our core strengths vibrant. These challenges are real, but they are ones I know we will meet directly and openly.
At the upcoming 2021 NASPA Virtual Conference, I will be joining a panel of national chief student affairs officers from our group to talk more about this effort. I am assured at UGA, we will continue to lead in this way, well into the future! We always have and, expectedly, this makes me very proud.
